If you have medical insurance and would like to seek counseling services through your insurance, call the number listed on the back of your insurance card and ask for a list of mental health providers in your area. Other resources below will also help you find a counselor through your insurance.

This website offers self-help tools such as articles on mental health topics, mental health apps, worksheets, and screening tools.

NATIONAL ALLIANCE ON MENTAL ILLNESS (NAMI)

(NAMI) HelpLine: 1-800-950-6264

NAMI is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of individuals with mental disorders and their families. Their website provides resources on mental disorders that are helpful for people who have experienced mental illness and their families, including support groups, education and training.

HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT

Provides over 350,000 listings of local public and private resources such as mental health providers, substance abuse treatment, women’s clinics, food pantries, domestic violence shelters, and V.A. facilities.

TEXAS TROPICAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

Crisis Line: 1-877-289-7199

Offers behavioral health services to those in Hidalgo, Cameron, or Willacy County for free or on a sliding scale. Tropical will not refuse services based on an inability to pay.

Finding a Local Mental Health Provider

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

Many employers offer assistance programs for employees to receive mental health services. To read more about these programs, click here or contact your employer.

Offers online and local support groups for those living with mood disorders. They also provide educational resources on mood disorders, support for family and friends, and stories from those who have been able to find successful treatment for their mood disorder.
